Shop with a Cop – A Wonderful Experience for Kids

December means it’s time for Shop with a Cop. In communities all across America, children are being teamed up with police officers every December to experience a day of fun and shopping for holiday gifts.

In 1989 a group of police officers literally passed the hat to collect Christmas donations for one needy child in their community. Since then, the concept has grown in law enforcement agencies across the US. The year 2016 marked the beginning of the non-profit entity we now know as Shop with a Cop.

Shop with a Cop’s mission serves local at-risk, under-served children providing them with necessary items such as clothing, gifts for the holidays as well as a friend with which to spend quality time. Any unused funds donated to the non-profit are often utilized throughout the year.

Children are selected through the schools they attend, often by a school resource officer or after-school program. School counselors, public aid workers and other charitable organizations also make referrals to Shop with a Cop.
